3 - John Ashcraft Colvin, born April 30, 1800, Fayette Co.,
PA. Married Jane Hughey, August 24, 1820. Died October 5, 1880, Pike

The big problem researching my line of Colvins is that no one seems to have been able to conclusively document the date and place of James Colvin's birth or his death. There are also large gaps in our understanding of where he lived when he first came from England/Ireland, and the circumstances of his marriage and the birth of Thomas. Family anecdote has identified him as a Revolutionary War veteran, and, indeed, the land Thomas received in Highland Co., OH was orginally given to veterans of the Revolutionary as part of the Virginia Distribution. But there is no record of his service. Unfortunately, the War of 1812 saw the sacking of Washington, DC and the loss of some Revolutionary War records, perhaps his among them.

4. William Colvin born ca 1826 in Ohio married Nancy Brooking/Brookings 10 Feb 1848 in Highland Co. OH. Died 9 Mar in Pike Co. IL.
My problem has been and continues to be when and where Nancy Brooking Colvin died. William died 9 Mar 1899 in Pike County IL. Nancy is not in the 1900 census, and least I haven't found her yet.
